MonteVerdi Media event calender

28 March 2010 | Hansel and Gretel

The story of Hansel and Gretel is being told by the Dutch actor René Groothof on the music by Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition. This family concert will be the fourth recording made by MonteVerdi Media, the Orkest van het Oosten (the Netherlands Symphony Orchestra) and Challenge Records.

March 2010 | St. John Passion

Herr, unser Herrscher, dessen Ruhm in allen Landen herrlich ist! These are the words of the opening chorus of Johann Sebastian Bach’s magnificent St. John Passion. Composed for the Good Friday Vesper service of 1724 in Leipzig, this Passion is perhaps less familiar than the lengthy St. Matthew Passion but it is also a monumental piece due to Bach’s more extravagant approach. Performed by Frans Brüggen and his Orchestra of the Eighteenth Century, a match made in heaven when it comes to period performance, this is a concert you are not likely to forget.

14 May 2010 | Trombonissimo

A star musician like trombonist Christian Lindberg visiting the Netherlands, it’s not an every day event! Especially when he’s performing Sandström’s concerto for two trombones together with the Dutch trombonist Jörgen van Reijen, solo trombone player of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra. Lindberg is not only an excellent soloist, he also conducts Het Gelders Orkest (the Arnhem Philharmonic Orchestra) in Nielsen’s Helios Overture and Sibelius’ Symphony No. 2. MonteVerdi Media will record this concert in the Musis Sacrum Concert Hall in Arnhem.

18 May 2010 | Celebrating Schumann

Robert Schumann wrote his violin concerto when he already was floating towards madness. The star violist Joseph Joachim considered it a weak piece and after his death he stated in his will that the concerto should remained unplayed until 100 years after Schumann’s death, in order to protect the composer’s reputation. Frans Brüggen and his Orchestra of the Eighteenth Century will prove Joachim wrong when they will perform this concerto, together with his Symphony No. 4.

13 June 2010 | Severin von Eckardstein

The young German master pianist Severin von Eckardstein will appear for his third recital in Riaskoff’s Master Pianists Series at the Amsterdam Concertgebouw. Von Eckardstein, winner of the prestigious Queen Elizabeth Competition in 2003, is widely regarded as one of the most interesting pianists of his generation. He has a very comprehensive and versatile repertoire, reaching from the 18the century into the 21st century: Severin von Eckardstein is a Romantic pianist who has great interest too in the contemporary art. His unconditional love for the piano has brought him to the top of the piano elite and MonteVerdi Media is happy to announce the recording of his upcoming recital at the Amsterdam Concertgebouw. His program features: Mozart’s ‘Duport Variations’, Schumann’s ‘Symphonic Etudes, op. 13, Medtner’s ‘Sonata Reminiscenza’, Scriabin’s ‘2 Poèmes, op. 32’ plus the 7th Sonata, op. 64 and finally Messiaen’s sublimation of the divine: ‘Regard de l’Eglise d’Amour’.
